Patient Groups


Patient Participation Group

We currently have an active Patient Participation Group which meets annually to discuss various issues concerning the organisation of the practice.
We believe that the group is invaluable in acting as an interface between patients and the practice, working proactively to improve services.
The groups aims include:

  • exchange of ideas to improve the patient experience
  • discussions regarding new patient services
  • to act as a forum to feedback to the practice suggestions for improvement to services provided to us (patient     services, the organisation and to the building and premises

The group is happy to welcome new members, particularly those with young families or patients of working age. We are also particularly keen to have at least 2 male patients and also at least one patient who is not of White British ethnicity.

Patient Reference Group (via email)

The Patient Reference Group is a new group with whom we can gather information and exchange ideas via e-mail. The group does not meet in person and may eventually consist of many patients making up a “virtual” group.

This group is called upon to assist the Patient Participation Group when creating and conducting surveys or when the Practice requires patient input for new services and developments.

We still need more patients to join the Patient Reference Group. We are looking for patients in any age group, but particularly those with young children or teenagers, carers, patients with a disability, as well as those with long term conditions (such as asthma, hypertension, heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes) who may regularly use the services of the practice.

Developments 2014/15

  • EMIS ACCESS – extended so patients can request repeat prescriptions, update their details, view their medical records and test results and views their immunisations and allergies.
  • Telephone system having a small system upgrade.
  • Reception staff reconfiguration to allow more staff available at busy times of days.  Both the telephone system upgrade and the reception staff changes should assist with telephone access issues.
  • Cancellation of appointments via replying to our text reminders now enabled.
  • Friends and Family test introduced in December 2014 – now available for all patients to give feedback. 

Action points agreed by the group were –

  • Newsletter to be placed on our website and available by request at reception and laminated copies available in waiting rooms, also to add to noticeboard as laminated copies of previous newsletter went missing
  • To continue with donations of magazines for waiting rooms however they also go missing regularly
  • The large DNA rate at the surgery was discussed and patients in the group were very surprised at the number.  Suggestions were to charge patients for their DNA but Dr Painter explained we are not at present allowed to do this.  Will keep the group informed if this changes in the future.
  • Article on our appointments system to be included in next newsletter to assist patients to understand what type of appointments are available on any days.
  • Also to add an article to inform patients about the new facility to enable cancellation of appointments via text reminders
  • It was discussed how to brighten up the surgery with minimal outlay.  It was suggested that we now approach local Art Clubs or Groups to see if they would like to voluntarily display their works.  Previously colleges had been approached with no responses.
